Merthyr 48 Aberavon 19

In their final game of the season, Aberavon went down 19 - 48 at Premiership & Cup winners Merthyr on Tuesday evening despite leading with half hour to go.

The Wizards got off to a good start when wing Mike Wilson went over for a try that was converted by outside half Steffen Williams. The Ironmen responded with an unconverted try of their own to make the score 7 - 5 to the Wizards after quarter of an hour play. The homeside then picked up a yellow card before Aberavon prop Mike Burgess went over for the Wizards second try. On the half hour mark Aberavon wing Frankie Jones was sin binned by referee Jason Bessant with Merthyr scoring another unconverted try shortly after. At the end of the first half, Merthyr picked up their second yellow card of the evening when captain and lock Craig Locke was sent to the sin-bin. The score was 12 - 10 in the Wizards favour at the interval.

Right at the start of the second half Aberavon's Burgess scored his second and the Wizards third try of the evening. Williams added the extras to put the Aberavon 19 - 10 up. However, two quick converted tries by the Ironmen saw the homeside take the lead for the first time with half hour to go on the clock. Merthyr 24, Aberavon 19. A penalty by Merthyr on the hour mark made it a two-score game, with them then going on to score three more converted tries over a nine-minute period to make the final score 48 - 19 to Merthyr.
