The Wizards make their third signing with the addition of Chay Smith from Newport RFC.
Twenty-three year old centre Smith certainly has an appetite in finding the try line, he has racked up 13 tries this season for Newport, totalling 25 tries in 79 appearances for the Black and Ambers.
A Bishopston Comprehensive School and Filton College pupil also played for Ospreys U16, Bristol U19s, Welsh Students and Cardiff Metropolitan University
“Aberavon are known for playing a wide and expansive style of rugby that I feel corresponds to my attributes as a player.
They are a great rugby club, an ambitious team with fantastic history and have fans that are proud to support the wizards,” said Smith.
Pre-season is just around the corner and the boys are fully preparing, and so will Chay.
“I can’t wait to get stuck into pre-season, earn my place, meet all of the boys and challenge for the title next season in what is going to be a really tough league,” added Smith.
Chay will be going a formidable back line with the likes of Price, James, Andrews and Gage to name a few and the new centre from Newport likes what he sees.
“I’m joining a back line that is packed with exciting talent, one that I can’t wait to play in!
I consider myself to be a player who gives 110% to the cause, hopefully create some tries for the boys out wide and maybe grab a couple myself,” commented the young centre.
The Wizards are certainly signing some ambitious motivated players and Chay Smith adds to that cohort.
“I would consider myself an ambitious individual, and I hate losing.
On a serious note, I have never won a league title and would love to get some silverware by winning the premiership with the Wizards,” finalised Smith.
We cannot wait to see this young centre in action.
