The REAL Welsh Derby Match is BACK, Aberavon versus Neath. Saturday 2 September, 5pm.
Neath RFC were relegated from the Welsh Premiership Division in 2019 and have since played in the Welsh Championship. Neath have now been promoted back to the Welsh Premiership … therefore the derby games resume!
The last derby match was in 2019 at the Gnoll with Aberavon winning 43-12. The Wizards also won the notorious Boxing Day fixture that same season at the Talbot Athletic Ground, that game ended 36-17.



Aberavon against Neath has been a pivotal fixture in the team’s calendar for decades with rivalry increasing in the 70s and 80s, has grown since. But since 2019, the meetings between the two have been put on hold … but the rivalry never gone.
The long-standing history goes back before WW1 but up to date records show that there have been 193 meetings between the two teams post World War II with Aberavon winning 80, losing 89 and drawing 24. Notably, in the last 12 meetings, Aberavon have won 10, lost 1 and drawn 1.


So, we head back to Talbot Athletic Ground on Saturday 2nd September for the earliest Aberavon and Neath derby ever, as normally a Boxing Day and Easter Monday fixture.
The last time Neath won at the Talbot Athletic Ground was in 2014, 27-10.
