Lock forward – front of line jumper, Adrian (known as Ade) Owen, was the first-ever to receive the Aberavon club-person of the year award in 1980. He went to Treorchy Comprehensive School and returned there as a very good and popular art teacher. Still lives near Treorchy. He was sent off in his 2nd game for Aberavon. Among his dismissals was a 16-wk suspension. Owen captained Aberavon in 1982-83 and 1983-84 and was the club player of the year in 1981 and 1982. Ade captained Aberavon vs Maoris in November 1982 and scored two tries in the first match (vs Burnaby) of the Aberavon tour to Canada in 1982. In 1982-83 he was suspended for six weeks. He transferred to Bridgend in October 1984, later playing 43 games for Pontypridd (1988-1990). Ade was three times in a Wales squad (not game).
