Biography
Despite being a late starter and making his debut at the age of 22, Jay overcame injury in 2015-16 and deservedly took the Principality Premiership Newcomer of the Year award and followed by receiving a development contract with the Ospreys. ‘Chunder’ played for Baglan, Bridgend Athletic and for several seasons with Cwmavon before joining Aberavon, where, after missing 2014-15 through injury, he scored 10 tries in his 18 appearances in season 2015-16 – all being sensational scores. In 2016-17 he scored eight tries in his 11 league appearances, but in the summer of 2018 he was released from the Ospreys contract and joined Merthyr. In the 2018-19 season he scored 16 league tries for champions Merthyr, including one against Aberavon. In the summer of 2019 he travelled to Australia, where he joined the famous Manly club in New South Wales, playing for the Manly Marlins. He came home for Christmas 2020 and played against Ebbw Vale on December 21, taking part in a 21-11 win. He is an exciting character both on and off the build and after ‘bulking up’, it made him extraordinarily difficult for defenders to stop with power and pace aplenty and he became argueably the best wing in the Premiership. Signed for the 2021-22 season, but has received an injury in training.
