New Coach Joins the Wizards

Aberavon appoint Tom Jones as their new Strength and Conditioning Coach

The new addition to the backroom is 29 year old Tom Jones.

Tom played rugby until the age of 22 and was capped by Wales U16s, he also represented Cardiff Blues and Ospreys at age grade level. After finishing rugby he took up mixed martial arts and Brazilian Jiu Jitsu – and also competed.

Since then, Tom has recently completed a degree in Sports and Exercise Science.

Jones is an ambitious guy and is not looking to make up the numbers.

“Ultimately, as a team the goal is to build on last year and win the premiership title.

… from an S&C perspective, this means providing a program to make the players as physically capable and robust as possible and to continue building a culture of hard work, professionalism and enjoyment and to continually develop my skills as an S&C coach”, said Tom.

The players can expect some high end effort from Jones.

“I will always aim to try and over deliver and provide a professional program, I will give all of my efforts to help the team in anyway I can and will expect the same effort in return”, commented Jones.

Head Coach Jason Hyatt added.

“Tom is building a great reputation with everyone he works with.

He has loads of energy and I’m positive he will fit into the Wizards environment perfectly.”

With preseason around the corner and friendlies scheduled Jones is looking forward to getting started.

“I’m really looking forward to cutting my teeth as an S&C coach in the premiership with such a prestigious team, with a great culture, a wealth of experience and knowledge in coaches and players alike and developing good relationships”, said Tom.
