‘Kingy’ had great success with Pontypridd, Aberavon and Wales under-18s. As a pupil of Ynysawdre Comprehensive School he skippered Wales Secondary Schools from the back-row. The likes of David Pickering and Stuart Barnes played in the side he captained. He appeared for Tondu, Maesteg, Aberavon (8 games as a long-haired student in 1986-87 and even scored two tries !!) and several other clubs, becoming a respected schoolmaster at Pencoed Comprehensive. He took both Pontypridd and Aberavon to cup finals and was especially successful for Wales under-18s, bringing the likes of Ieuan Davies, Rowan Jenkins, Gareth Harvey and Sam Williams to Aberavon. He finished at Aberavon in November 2013.
